Tip One: It takes at minimum TWO MINUTES to read ONE DOUBLE-SPACED PAGE, or 300 WORDS. You are bit safer if you allow two and a-half minutes.
All academics, please memorize that formula: 300 WORDS in TWO MINUTES. Three hundred words in two minutes. Three hundred words in two minutes. Make it your mantra, as you prepare to give a talk.
Tip Two: Words that sound beautiful in your head as you read them from a page probably do not sound quite so beautiful when they are read aloud and enter someone else’s ears. A journal article and a conference presentation should not contain the same sentences.
